need help!

in at II on page 57(on the other side) who is "they" that pozzo is referring too when he says "...  one day we were born, one day we shall die, the same day, the same second, is that not enough for you? They give birth astride of a grave, the light dreams an instant, then its night once more".

    I think that's a really good question Jennifer. I think that "they" refers to all of humanity. This is a very existentialist statement. It's saying that the only thing that we can be certain of is that we are going to die. We know that time continues to pass. I think that Pozzo is saying that time is like an uncontrollable force warring against us. Even though human beings know they will die one day, we continue to have families, leaving legacies and generations behind us. Humans continue to live in spite of death. Hopefully, this helps!

    I think in this case "they" is figurative. You know how people say "You Know what they say..."? Its just like that
