Think of it as this they have no idea of time passing because every day the same old events occur only time they have a slight difference is when Pozzo and lucky come by it seems that they are the only characters that change within the story. Later on in Act II you may have noticed how Vladimir Notices the change that have been occurring and he noticed in complete conscience that the boy came yesterday is the same from the day before yesterday and today. This is what Becket is trying to show to the reader that humans live in there own world the world of happiness and hope only drastic changes will effect that idealism.
