Some researchers even suggest that Godot could be a distorted version of God. He is not true to his words (like promising to come to Estragon and Vladimir the next day). Many people assume that Godot is God because of the wordplay being the first three letters of his name. Beckett claims: "If by Godot I had meant God I would have said God, and not Godot..." refuting popular belief. In my opinion, I see Godot as simply something, something that they are waiting to happen. Also Godot may be a symbol of hope--- Estragon and Vladimir are waiting for hope; hope that will allow them to escape the life they lead; to escape their mundane and quotidian lifestyle.
